Obama’s Stimulus Package

On February 17, 2009, President Obama signed into law a stimulus plan worth $787 billion. That’s enough money to buy nearly 250 airbus 380s—the world’s largest passenger jets. The numbers are staggering, and Americans are wondering how does all their money trickles down to taxpayers.

Americans can expect $13 extra dollars in their paychecks due to a new tax credit. People who buy a home before December 31 will receive an $8,000 tax credit. Those who receive unemployment benefits in 2009 won’t pay federal taxes on the first $2,400.  Food Stamp recipients will see an increase in benefits--$25 more for those on unemployment benefits. And the newly unemployed get to keep their health insurance under the Cobra Plan.

The “pork” and “baloney” hidden in the stimulus plan is huge. There’s $18 billion to literally destroy brand new vehicles (SUVs and trucks), $5 billion for Democrat political action groups like ACORN, $500,000 for dog parks, $6 million for water slides, $1 million for a Frisbee golf course, $246 million tax break for Hollywood movie producers to buy motion picture film, $448 million for construction Dept. of Homeland Security headquarters, $600 million to buy hybrid vehicles for federal employees, $150 million for the Smithsonian museum facilities, $1 billion for the 2010 Census, $75 million for salaries of FBI employees, $500 million to state and local fire stations, $412 million for CDC buildings and property, $88 million for renovating headquarters of the Public Health Service, $850 million for Amtrak, $110 million to Farm Service Agency to upgrade computer system, unspecified millions to illegal immigrants (in form of ‘rebate’ checks, to name a few.
