Recreation in Las Vegas Nevada

 Big Horn Sheep

On the outside, Las Vegas is mainly known for it’s Hotel’s, Casino’s and Nightlife, however, the locals looking for outdoor activities won’t be thrown to the wayside. The largest attraction which is open to visitors 365 days a year is Lake Mead; the largest manmade lake in the world! Boating, Fishing, Water Skiing, Jet Skiing and Sailing are the most popular activities. If you don’t have your own boat or Jet Ski then rentals can be obtained through the Lake Mead Marina @ 702.293.3484. While you are visiting Lake Mead a trip to Hoover Dam would be in order if you’ve never been. Believe it or not, Las Vegas is considered centrally located when you consider we are only a 4 hour car ride from great skiing in Brianhead or 6 hours from fantastic skiing in Mammoth. You’ll find it only takes 4 to 5 hours to drive to the beaches of California where many locals are able to get their surfing fix down. If hiking is your forte, then don’t fret, for Red Rock is only a 45 minute drive from just about anywhere in the city where you will catch gorgeous views of Red Rock Mountains, wildlife and hiking galore. Only a 4 hour car ride will get you to Zion National Park where hiking trails range for the amateur all the way up to the novice. Just by doing a little bit of research online, you will find some of the most beautiful trails nestled back in long caverns full of waterfalls and majestic wildlife. Once you’ve lived here a while, you’ll see that many residents take up the sport of ATV’s. On the outskirts of town, many have made the wide open desert a playground for such an activity. In the dry lake beds, you may even catch a glimpse of the dune buggys attached to kites. (I haven’t tried that one yet). Nevada is even known to residents for hunting considering Wild Elk, Bobcats, Mountain Lions, Big Horn Sheep, Mule Deer, pheasant, ducks & geese call the state of Nevada their home. Art in the Park is a must see located in Boulder City, Nevada and comes around once a year in October.
